Frequently asked questions

How do I find out if I’m registered to vote?

Maybe you’ve moved in the past two years, recently gotten married, or just don’t know if you’re registered to vote.

You can check your voter registration information anytime online. Go to SDVote.com to easily check your registration or update your voter registration. If you will be 18 years of age by Election Day, you can register to vote now.

Where’s My Ballot?

Ballots will be mailed to all registered voters starting the week of October 5. If you haven’t received your ballot by October 19, call the Registrar of Voters at (858) 565-5800.

What are the benefits of voting by mail?

Voting by mail is a SIMPLE, SAFE, and SECURE way to make sure your vote is counted as soon as possible.

SIMPLE: A mail in ballot, instructions, and “I Voted” sticker will be mailed to you starting the week of October 5th.

SAFE: Fill out your ballot at home.

SECURE: Seal your completed ballot in the provided postage paid envelope. Be sure to sign and date on the backside of the ballot.

Is there a way I can return my ballot without sending it in the mail?

Yes! You can also return your ballot to an official Mail Ballot Drop Off location near you. All Drop Off locations in San Diego are open every day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. now through Election Day. You can find a list of official Drop Off locations here or check out the map below to find the one nearest you.

Will there still be polling places?

YES. Polling places will be open for four days, from Saturday, October 31st through Election Day on Tuesday, November 3rd.

However, there will be fewer locations than in prior elections, so your usual polling place may have changed. If you decide to vote in-person, don’t be surprised if there are long lines. You will also be required to wear a face mask and maintain social distancing.

You can find your polling place in San Diego County by using the Registrar’s polling place locator tool here.

Where can I go if I have more questions?
